Antonio Brown being investigated for ‘possible battery’ at his Florida home: report

Former NFL star Antonio Brown is reportedly being investigated for possible battery at his Florida home Tuesday.

There was still an “active scene” outside his Hollywood home and police are determining whether or not charges are going to be brought against him, ESPN reported. A source told ESPN that police believe it is “not a domestic situation.”

FLORIDA POLICE DEPARTMENT CUTS TIES WITH ANTONIO BROWN AFTER PROFANE OUTBURST

According to TMZ Sports, officers swarmed the home of the free-agent wide receiver who last played for the New England Patriots earlier Tuesday. A neighbor told the gossip website that someone was in custody in the back of a police cruiser but it wasn’t clear who it was.

A police source told TMZ Sports that Brown wasn’t in custody “at this time.”

The latest apparent incident comes less than a week after the Hollywood Police Department cut ties with Brown following an incident outside his home involving the mother of his children.

ANTONIO BROWN FILMS PROFANITY-LACED TIRADE AT EX-GIRLFRIEND, POLICE IN FRONT OF HIS KIDS OUTSIDE FLORIDA HOME

It was the third domestic incident involving Brown in the last three months, Hollywood police had said. According to CBS Miami, the latest incident — which included a profanity-laced tirade aimed at officers — was the last straw; police told Brown he was no longer welcome as a donor and volunteer for the Police Athletic League (PAL). Police returned the unemployed wide receiver’s donation.

“We made the decision to sever ties between Mr. Brown and the Hollywood Police Athletic League,” public information officer Christian Lata said in a statement. “We did not want our youth to be subject to this type of behavior nor emulate the actions of Mr. Brown.”

Lata said that Brown used profanity in front of his children. Police said Brown’s donation to the 7-on-7 league was returned Jan. 9.

ANTONIO BROWN DECIDES HE’S ONLY PLAYING WITH TOM BRADY IN 2020

“These incidents have caused an irreparable rift between the Police Department and PAL and Mr. Brown,” Lata added.

Brown livestreamed a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend Chelsie Kyriss and Hollywood police outside his home. Brown’s children appeared to be present as the wide receiver yelled profanities at police and Kyriss, accusing her of trying to steal a Bentley that was parked in his driveway after coming to pick up her kids for school.

Brown appears to be focused on his rap career as he faces allegations of sexual assault and rape by two different women.

Jacksonville Jaguars’ AJ Bouye fined $10G for skipping mandatory yoga session, calls discipline pointless

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback A.J. Bouye said Wednesday he was among the players who received excessive fines from former team executive Tom Coughlin.

Bouye told the Florida Times-Union he was fined $10,000 for missing a mandatory yoga session. Other players like Leonard Fournette and Dante Fowler were also fined excessively under the Coughlin regime, an arbitrator ruled after a grievance was filed with the NFL Players’ Association.

“I know what work bests for me as a player, and they didn’t want to hear that,” Bouye told the newspaper. “I remember one time I had an injury, and I got a little work done here, but I wanted to do all my work in my [hometown], and they were kind of getting on me.”

He added: “You never really know what you’re going to get fined for until it happens. You’ve got to find a way to appeal it and hope it won’t happen again. I’m just finding out about who got fined all that money. I hate that it happened. People laugh because it doesn’t happen anywhere else. They just laugh at us when it happens.”

Bouye called Coughlin’s fines pointless and lamented some rookies who may have had their entire game check stripped because of the thousands of dollars they owed the organization.

Fournette and Fowler were among the players who had their money returned to them as part of the winning ruling. Fournette admitted he received a $99,000 fine for sitting on the bench during the final game of the 2018 as an inactive player. Fowler was fined more than $700,000 for missing health checkups at the team facility.

Jacksonville fired Coughlin on Wednesday.

Team owner Shad Khan’s statement thanked Coughlin for his years of service to the organization but also hinted that his spat with the players’ association had something to do with the timing of his termination.

“I determined earlier this fall that making this move at the conclusion of the 2019 season would be in everyone’s best interests but, in recent days, I reconsidered and decided to make this change immediately,” the statement read.

“I thank Tom for his efforts, not only over the past three years but for all he did from our very first season, 25 years ago, to put the Jacksonville Jaguars on the map. General Manager Dave Caldwell and Head Coach Doug Marrone will each report directly to me on an interim basis. My expectations, and those of our fans, for our final two games and the 2020 season are high.”

Seattle Seahawks’ Rashaad Penny was gifted touchdown vs. Minnesota Vikings

The Seattle Seahawks have shown they can beat teams in the air and on the ground this season and there appears to be a deeper relationship between their two running backs than what’s seen on the field.

On the first drive in the third quarter of the Seahawks’ win over the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, Chris Carson got the team within scoring distance with a 25-yard run. He then subbed himself out of the game to give Rashaad Penny a chance to score a touchdown. Penny was confused by the gesture.

“I was surprised [Carson] actually told me to come in at the 1-yard line,” Penny told reporters Monday night, according to the Seattle Times. “Because I’m not the 1-yard running back. But that shows you how much he cares and how much love there is between me and him.”

With the emergence of both players this season, the Seahawks were thought to have a running back controversy on their hands. Carson has 981 rushing yards this season with five touchdowns and Penny has 370 rushing yards with three touchdowns this season.

Carson, however, downplayed any notion of a controversy, according to NBC Sports Northwest.

“It’s great,” he said. “We have two different running styles, so it keeps the defense on their toes. They don’t know what to expect. Rashaad has been practicing so hard these last few weeks, really since training camp. He’s just trying to get his feel of the game, and it’s starting to show up.”

Penny added: “It’s a brotherhood. Everybody thinks we’re supposed to hate each other. This is literally love in the backfield.”

Odell Beckham Jr. says he confronted Mike Tomlin over fake yawn during game

Cleveland Browns star Odell Beckham Jr. addressed Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin during their matchup last Thursday – a moment that was lost in the end-of-game melee that lit the sports world on fire.

Beckham told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer on Monday he told Tomlin he felt disrespected when the coach fake-yawned in July when he was asked about having to devise a gameplan to cover the wide receiver.

Beckham fake-yawned in the direction of Tomlin after a 42-yard catch that set up Baker Mayfield’s rushing touchdown. He said he had a chance to also express his feelings to Tomlin about midway through the fourth quarter.

“I said ‘you disrespected me,’” Beckham told the paper. “I said ‘you know who I am.’ And he said ‘I know who you are. That’s why we’re doubling you all game’ and this and that.”

Beckham added: “We were just talking. There’s never been no beef with me and no coach. We were just talking s—t.”

Beckham has had a quiet first season with the Browns.

Ex-NFL linebacker has Super Bowl ring stolen, shares video of thieves in house

A Super Bowl champion linebacker posted a video on social media Sunday showing two people breaking into his home and stealing his championship ring and other valuables.

Spencer Paysinger was a member of the New York Giants’ Super Bowl-winning team during the 2011 season. He said on Instagram that the break-in occurred in March and he is hoping the videos from his Los Angeles home will help track down whoever stole his valuables.

Paysinger said on Instagram he had left the window cracked open just a bit to air the room.

He said he was conflicted on whether to post the videos.

“I took it out recently for an elementary school career day and was lazy on returning to its secure location,” Paysinger said. “My Super Bowl ring should serve as a cherished family heirloom not an unfortunate event.”

Paysinger added: “If you’re reading this or if anyone knows the two young men in the video, please be assured there are no consequences tied to this post. This isn’t bait, there are no cops involved and nothing will happen to you by giving back my ring; keep the other s–t.”

Tom Brady brings up wife Gisele Bundchen’s scathing comment while praising teammates

Tom Brady on Monday used his wife Gisele Bundchen’s Super Bowl comments about former New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker to praise his teammates amid another milestone.

Brady passed Brett Favre to move into third place in the NFL’s all-time passing yards list on Sunday. In an appearance on Jim Grady’s Westwood One radio show, he brought up the comment Bundchen made after the Patriots lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI.

“Because I’ve been fortunate to play in the same place for 20 years with great teammates, I’ve been able to pile up a lot of individual statistics,” Brady said. “But the reality for me is, all those I share with all the guys I played with.”

He added: “You know, my wife said, ‘He cannot throw the ball and catch it.’ That’s the truth. There’s a lot of guys who have been on the other end of catching all those passes.”

Washington Redskins fire Jay Gruden after more than 5 seasons, reports say

The Washington Redskins fired Jay Gruden early Monday morning after more than five seasons helming the team, according to multiple reports.

The reported dismissal comes after the winless Redskins dropped their fifth straight game of the season to the New England Patriots on Sunday. New England won, 33-7.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS’ MASON RUDOLPH BRIEFLY HOSPITALIZED AFTER RECEIVING SCARY BLOW TO HEAD DURING GAME

ESPN first reported Gruden’s firing.

Gruden, the brother of Oakland Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, was in the middle of his sixth season with the Redskins. Washington had only been to the playoffs one time during Gruden’s tenure and never won more than nine games in the regular season.

Washington was 4-12 during Gruden’s first season before improving to 9-7 in 2015 and 8-7-1 in 2016. But the team appeared to be moving backward the past two years, finishing 7-9 in each season before the nightmare start to 2019.

After Sunday’s debacle, Gruden offered some gallows humor when addressing his job security.

“If the key works on Monday, I’ll keep working,” he told reporters, according to The Washington Post.

A stinging critique of the team’s coaching from veteran running back Adrian Peterson in the aftermath of Sunday’s loss also indicated Gruden’s departure was probably coming sooner rather than later.

“It’s clear that something has to change,” Peterson told the Post. “That’s one thing you do know, because we are 0-5. We haven’t won. We haven’t been productive as an offense.”

He added: “You got to go back to the drawing board and say, ‘Okay, as a coaching staff…what can we do better to put our players in better position to be productive as an offense, to be better as a defense?’ It’s their job to do that. We 0-5. What we’ve been doing, obviously, isn’t working.”

It’s unclear who will take over as the team’s interim head coach. Assistant head coach Bill Callahan is the likely candidate given his experience coaching the Oakland Raiders from 2002 to 2003.

New England Patriots’ Julian Edelman recalls late-night awkward interaction with Bill Belichick

New England Patriots star Julian Edelman on Wednesday recalled the first conversation he ever had with head coach Bill Belichick and why it was a moment he will never forget for one very awkward reason.

Edelman, who joined the Patriots in 2009 as a seventh-round pick from Kent State, explained in a deleted scene from his Showtime series “100% Edelman” he has only talked to Belichick about eight times in his 10-year career. Early on, he was working a late night at the team facility when he saw Belichick on a treadmill in a dark weight room watching film and taking notes.

“I hurry and scatter out of there so he doesn’t by any chance see me,” Edelman said. “That’s the last thing I would want at that time of my life and career because then I’d have to engage in a potential conversation and I don’t know if I had the stamina for that at that time.”

But soon afterward, came the truly uncomfortable encounter.

“I just so happen to walk by the hot tub and coach is in the hot tub. Obviously, I came in the room to go in the hot tub. But then we made eye contact and my natural instinct was to turn around like I was gonna leave,” he said.

“But then I saw that he saw that I was in there and then he got up and got out and real, real big party foul by coach. We’re supposed to have shorts on. Supposed to have shorts. But I guess at 11 o’clock, when you’re the GOAT of coaching you go wherever you want, free—free ball. So I had to hide my absolute face of terror after seeing what I saw and sit in the hot tub.”

Edelman said he did his thing in the hot tub and then tried to scamper out of there without being seen again by Belichick. The wide receiver said as he was leaving the building he ran into Belichick again.

As the two were walking toward the exit, Edelman said he tried to strike up a conversation.

“I was sitting there I was like in so much disbelief of everything that was happening, going on that night that I potentially wanted to try and make some small talk with him. And I don’t know where I got the confidence but I asked him, ‘Coach, it’s pretty amazing that you’re here this late.’

Buffalo Bills’ Sean McDermott escorts New England Patriots staffers off field, including Bill Belichick’s son

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott was clearly upset that two New England Patriots staffers were on the field during the team’s pregame warmups Sunday before their matchup.

McDermott may not have known that one of the staffers was the son of Patriots coach Bill Belichick, Brian Belichick.

Video posted on social media from New Era Field in Buffalo showed McDermott and one of the staffers going back and forth while the coach was escorting them off the field.

It wasn’t clear what the Patriots staffers were actually doing on the field when McDermott was rushing them off.

However, the Patriots have been penalized in the past for some controversial practices, including in 2007 for videotaping an opposing team’s defensive coaches’ signals from an unauthorized location while Tom Brady was suspended four games for his alleged role in the Deflategate controversy in 2014.
